Self taught, street tested
I never sat in a photography classroom. I learned the way I still work, camera in hand, out on a street, shooting until the picture on the screen matched the one in my head. Then shooting more.
I have been at it long enough that the technical side runs on instinct now. That frees me to watch the part that actually matters, which is the person in front of the lens and what the light is doing to them.
My camera is a Canon 5D Mark III, a workhorse I know completely. No studio, no backdrop paper. The Dallas suburbs are the studio, and they keep repainting it for free.
A mom with a camera
I am a mom. Ask any parent what that does to your sense of time. The days crawl, the years sprint, and one morning the kid from the car seat is asking for gas money.
That is exactly why I take this work seriously. Senior photos are not headshots. They are proof of a person at the moment everything is about to change. I shoot other people's kids the way I would want someone to shoot mine, honestly and well.
Being a mom also means chaos does not rattle me. Nervous seniors, wiggly toddlers, dads who announce that they hate photos. All in a day.
The best light in Texas is ten minutes from your house.
I know these suburbs cold
Carrollton, Plano, Lewisville, Farmers Branch. I live here and drive these streets like everybody else. The difference is that I cannot stop cataloging them.
The brick alley that goes amber at seven. The chain link corridor nobody else notices. The platform where the trains slide in right behind you. I keep a running list of spots like these, sorted by the hour the light hits them best.
So when you book a session, you are not just hiring a camera. You are hiring the list.
